Note: For this “cat gap” below the gate trick I’d reccomend a hardware-mounted gate rather than a walk through gate so you don’t have a bottom threshold to trip over. We like the KidCo Safeway Top of Stairs gate.

The trick I‘be found for allowing cat to get through but not baby: get a normal gate (no pet door), measure diameter of the pet’s then baby’s head. Mount the gate with a gap below it so cat can duck under the gate to get through. Make sure that the height of the gap is bigger than cat’s head but smaller than baby’s. Voila!
